Know You Coffee!

Whenever I step into a coffee joint, I was overwhelmed by the wide choices of coffee available. It was embarrassing to ask the personnel to define each type of coffee as the question will shunned them and it will take too much time for people who are queuing behind me.

So, for scholastic purpose, I looked up the internet and here is the definition. Perhaps, I will order base on this reference.

Are Your English Good Enough?

Once I was employed in an NGO that required exceptional and heavenly English writing skill. My employer would always disapproved my English writing as it was not proficient enough for her level. So, I was having a rather difficult time to work for her. Needless to say, I wasn't keen to work there any longer.

Throughout the years while I was growing up, I wasn't a very avid reader, but somehow I admit that I have sufficient level of English that put me through my job like handling day to day conversation, presentation and email communication. In fact, while I was working in a bank, my English is well-praised by my peers which is consider above the average. That is, until I worked in the aforementioned job whose my employer is a book author and a column writer for a well-known national newspaper. Undoubtedly, my employer uses his superiority in English against mine, and that would clearly shown my English is very mediocre.

I'm glad those days are over now. However, it still traumatized me and degraded my self esteem and confidence level. Soon after, I started working in a foreign country. Due to job requirement, I commute frequently from Thailand to Laos to China whom I meet people that English is not the prime language.  Then, slowly i grasped that my job doesn't require good English proficiency.

Despite the irony, the job even required me to lower my English to accommodate with the locals. So, all my grammar, sentence structure and vocabulary have forced to go all out of window.  In fact, simple English is sufficient as deep English jargon will not impressed them but will just bring the embarrassment out of them and making the business meeting or social gathering to no purpose as it is abrasive.

Base on this experience, I could defied those people who disdain others for low English proficiency. What benefit does it do if you speak good English in foreign country but does not understand by others, but in fact it will bring detrimental value to your business or friendship.  However, as English is a common language universally, so an upkeep of English is important.  Here perhaps from my friend's blog offers a easy guide on how to improve English in a simple and efficient way.
